Driving Without Insurance

“I had an accident while driving without insurance and it cost me $45,469.87!”

Are you driving without insurance and thinking that you are saving yourself a lot of money? Until recently, that’s exactly what I was doing too. I’m a good driver, is what I kept telling myself, what’s the worst that can happen?

Last year I lost my job and couldn’t afford to renew my insurance policy. Of course, I needed to driver my car in order to find a new job and be able to pay for insurance, so it was a bit of a Catch-22. After 3 months I found a new job and everything was going well, but I kept postponing getting insurance.

“I’ll do it on Monday” I kept saying to myself, then Monday turned into 1st next month and so on. I even tried to calculate how much money I had saved and felt good about it.

Then the accident happened. I can blame the bad water, the road and my old tires, but at the end of the day it was my fault. I hit a car and caused injuries to a young couple.

Both cars were totalled, but thank God nobody died. After the initial shock I had to face the harsh financial reality of the situation.

Had I been insured, the accident would simply have been a terrible experience. Driving without insurance meant that I was financial ruined. I couldn’t afford to pay even for my own injuries.

My advice to everyone who drives without insurance? Think again!

Accidents do happen regardless of how good of a driver you may think you are. Forget about the fines and losing your license. Think about the consequences you will face if you, God forbid, cause an accident and injure someone else.
