Say I myself have never been insured, but I have my license to drive, may I still use my parents car which is insured under their name.

If you borrow my car, and if it is INSURED, then, you do not get any ticket or fine. This is the LAW IN ONTARIO. Other provinces, I do not know. Thank you.
if i borrow someone’s car and lets say the person i borrowed from ARE insured, do i still get a fine since the insurance is not under my name?

All this is bullshit. ‘Persons’ on the act applies to CORPORATE entities. Not real people. So as long as you don’t say who you are on your social insurance (Which actually isn’t you) they can’t convict you.
Me to an now i’m up around the 50,000 range of fines without insurance and i think it’s bullshit..to top it off i live in the sticks… Fuck The police….Like don’t they got bigger bigger fish to fry…..Cant even go pick up my kid…..

Yeah…. I just got a summons for no insurance and a suspended license. I didn’t know my license is suspended… but I’m getting fined at least $5000.00 for no insurance. 1st offense and the last 1.. At least I got caught by a bored cop and not an accident. Live and learn i guess…

My 1st question and really my only question at this time is, do you know the difference between Law and Statute? You keep making reference to laws but don’t seem to realize that they are statutory regulations. Seems to me like you might not want to differenciate between the 2. WELL, in ontario the law is pretty stiff on these issues. There are many cases, where the person had “NO INSURANCE” for many months, but when they were charged for having NO INSURANCE, the minimum fine was approx $ 7000.00 . This number was chosen by the JUSTICE, because of his mental element of HAVING NO INSURANCE for many months. It was a message for the PUBLIC,,,,
Do you know what the definition of Driving is? I dont drive my car, i travel in my private conveyance. To DRIVE means your in COMMERCE, making money. So if this is the case do you really even need a DRIVERS license?
This vedio is for PROVINCE OF ONTARIO ONLY !! Now, in Ontario, if you are caught for HAVING NO INSURANCE, the minimum Fine is at $5000.00 for the first offence/ So, you were LUCKY on this adventure. DO NOT EVER DRIVE A CAR WITH NO INSURANCE. Lets say, you were in an accident, then what? No need to play around with these kind of issues. GET INSURANCE AND then drive the car. You did save money for now, but what if something happens ? Be a good citizen, and protect yourself and others on the ROAD.
I’m in CA and I’ve been driving without insurance for the last three years with no ticket or accidents. I came out on top because during this three year period I was 22-24. I saved atleast $3,500!

Spocky4, I actually thought long & hard about reporting the accident on moral & ethical grounds. My insurance would go up but like you said, what if he kills/hurts someone? I still think about that. Are there lots of people in Ontario driving without insurance? Don’t the cops look for and prosecute them? Its a real eye-opener for me…
