Massachusett: I got pulled over driving without insurance, what will be the penalties?
I am looking for advises from you guys those who experienced getting busted on driving without insurance in Massachusett. I got pulled over this morning for driving with a revoked plate. My insurance is expired since Dec/07 and my license plate had been revoked.
As I searched around, the penalties in Mass could be a fine between $500 to $5000 and one year jail time. So is there anyone experiene a similar situation and would you mind to share your story? what would be the advise for me? I am so scared for a jail time.
Now still waiting on my courtdate.
Thanks,
V.

Depends on the Judge, most often they will suspend your license. I know here in PA they take it. I can’t blame them. If you got in an accident and hurt someone, a family could be stuck with paying their medical bills and taht just isn’t right. If you can’t afford insurance, or are not mature enough to remember to renew it…..you shouldn’t be aloud to have a license. That is one of the dumbest things to do to yourself, your family, and possibly other families. Seeing you DID have it in DEC and just let it expire they may go lite and take your license and a fine.
Don’t panic about jail time bec that’s really for repeat offenders , you’ll get a fine and probably a suspended license , try not to panic .Best of luck.
dont worry too much. What will happen on your court date is that u will pay a fine. You will lose ur driving priviledges for 60 days and you will have to pay a reinstatement fee to get ur license back. No more than 500. i actually think its 300. absolutely no jail time. Jail time is usually save for repeat offenders. What the registry considers a habitual traffic offender. No jal time for gettin pulled over for a revoked plate. What u should do is get ur ins in order. Ur plates were probably revoked because of nonpayment of insurance.
Jail time is normally for repeat offenders. The fine range is used so the state doesn’t have to pass new laws every time they want to increase the fine, the “set” fine will probable be around $1000 for a first offence.
You may be able to plea bargain out the expired plate charge in return for pleading guilty to the no-insurance one.
They may also suspend your license for a period of time.
Also the next time you apply for insurance, it will be more expensive because of 1) The Lapse in Coverage and 2) Being caught driving without it.
