Question About Car Insurance
I know that if you cancel your Car Insurance, or it lapses, the NC DMV will take your tag. BUT, Here is my situation.
In order to get your license you have to have proof of insurance, And being i would be covered under my moms insurance, and Her car, What would happen if MY insurance lapsed…
Basically, I cannot afford insurance, But i have to get some before i can drive, and i do not know how long i will be able to keep it, Would i loose my license if my insurance was canceled? or what would happen?

The “license” you refer to is NOT your drivers license, but the state tag. You do NOT need to have proof of insurance to get a drivers license. Yes, your parents car MUST be insured and your name MUST be on the policy but you will NOT lose your operators license if the insurance on the car is canceled.
Cars cause damage when operated improperly so the insurance in ON THE CAR, not the person.

if you are on your parents policy then only if your parents policy gets canceled will you have a problem, and then only if you are a named insured with an auto registered in your name. if you are driving a car registered to your parents and they let the policy cancel, then THEY are the ones facing a problem. if you have your own car registered in your name and let the insurance cancel or lapse on it, then YOU have the problem. if you get caught driving without insurance you will have your tag taken and lose your license. remember, the insurance follows the car not the driver!
