Ticket for driving a Motorcycle without a Motorcycle License in Arizona?

Hello,

My husband got a ticket today for driving a Motorcycle without a motorcycle license and no insurance in Arizona. Does anyone have any suggestions? Does anyone know how expensive those tickets are? Can his license get revoked? Is it points againts his regular license? Sorry for so many questions but I’m really worried…

Thanks
He’s at the DMV as we speak so that he can at least provide the learners permit or somenthing.

You asked for suggestions. Here’s one. Get a motorcycle license if he’s going to ride his motorcycle. No license and no insurance is pretty serious. He better have a good reason to give the judge.

He can get points on his liscence and I’m not sure he can have it taken away but I highly doubt it. The ticket will probably be pretty high up there, maybe not outrageous though.

Tell him to take the MSF rider training course and get insured. I am sure he will pay a fine.

I once got busted for driving with no license, no insurance, and blowing a red light when I was 15. Soooo….I went and got my license and purchased insurance ASAP. When I went to see the judge he said “do you have a license?” I showed it to him. “Insurance?” Showed him that too. Only ended up getting a two-hundred something dollar ticket for running the red light.

So, I would highly recommend he got take the MSF course, or else try to go take the license test if he thinks he can pass, as well as getting insured AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

I understand there is only one or two places in Arizona (metro Phoenix) where you can take the motorcylce endorsement test. Here is a link to the information:

    Licensing Fees
Motorcycle license fees cost the same as regular driver license fees:

    Age 16 to 39 – $25
    Age 40 to 44 – $20
    Age 45 to 49 – $15
    Age 50 and above – $10

I am assuming your husband is in the first range – ask yourself if $25 and a half day off work (or a weekend) was worth the ticket. Sorry to be harsh, but it is a requirement. I wish you all the best.

In Arizona, civil citations encompass any type of moving or standing violation (including speeding, illegal parking, and disobeying traffic signals) that is not serious enough to be considered criminal. Unlike criminal offenses, traffic tickets do not appear on a criminal record. They do, however, add points to your license.

Furthermore, the maximum civil penalty is much lower for a traffic ticket than for criminal penalties. It usually amounts to a monetary fine and possibly a class on traffic safety.

Most courts in AZ have a website where he can look up the ARS# and it will list the amount of the fine. For example, if he was ticketed by Chandler PD, and his ticket states he is to appear at Chandler Municipal Court, he can go to the court website and probably find out what his fine MAY be. The judge can pretty much do whatever he/she wants, so this isn’t an exact amount.

I was in court with my son a year ago and while we were waiting for his case to come up, we sat through several cases where the defendants were charged with riding without a license. It’s a fairly expensive ticket. If your husband gets his license or permit and has proof of insurance that he can show the judge, he may get off easier.

I hope both you and your husband learn from this. I have an AZ motorcycle endorsement, and I pay a lot of money every year to insure my bike. There is a reason it’s madatory.

He will get a good size fine. But if he is smart he will get the motorcycle license & insurance before his court date. Show that to the judge and he will probably go easier on him. But he should expect to be fined just the same.
