What to do about a ticket for driving without insurance?

(I live in Washington). I got a ticket today for driving without insurance. It says on my ticket that I can do either a mitigation hearing or a contested hearing (contested being where you challenge the infraction). I intend to get insurance so I can bring it with to court. But is there some way I can get this deferred or something? This is my very first ticket.

I believe the “mitigation hearing” means If you buy insurance now, take the proof of insurance to court with you, the ticket may be (mitigated) dismissed.
